Watch the Trailer For They Fight From Common’s Freedom Road

Common has been a known activist and philanthropist for well over a decade. His socially conscious raps weren’t the only lane for the Soulquarian to get his blessings off; the once-Vegan PETA supporter remains a part of the “Knowing Is Beautiful” movement, which supports AIDS/HIV awareness, is the founder of Common Ground Foundation, a non-profit that aims to empower youth in poverty around the world, and most recently showed support for Democratic nominee for Governor of Florida, Andrew Gillum, during this year’s mid-terms.

Common’s message and voice have been consistent over his long-spanning career, choosing to uplift fellow Black people, and raise awareness of the many disparities African-Americans face in the nation today.

Most recently, Common’s been focusing on diversifying Hollywood with his studio, Freedom Road Productions. Teaming up with Argent Pictures, Freedom Road Production has produced They Fight, a documentary film based on two athletes, Ragahleak “Peanut” Bartee and Quincey Williams, who live in Washington, D.C.’s Ward 8 district. The film follows the two young men who are enrolled in the Lyfe Style Boxing program, where they’re mentored by Coach Walt Manigan and training toward the 2017 Junior Olympics.

The documentary will explore the Bartee and Williams’ hardships outside of their training, and their real-life issues living in Ward 8. FOX Sports will distribute the film as a part of their Magnify documentary series. It will air on FOX November 11.
